NORTHVILLE – Osram Sylvania announced this week it has expanded its New Hampshire manufacturing capabilities by adding the first advanced Surface Mount Technology production line for the hot new LED modules that are increasingly making their way into new cars and trucks. Osram Sylvania’s Southeast Michigan office is in Northville.
On Monday night, MITechNews.Com Editor Mike Brennan had a chance to check out this new LED technology at a press event held at the Oakland County Airport. Executives were on hand to provide a one-on-one briefing that was followed by demonstration of the power of LED lighting – and how it also is used as styling cues on vehicles made by Ford Motor Company.
The 2016 Ford F-150 pick-up truck uses the LED headlamp with the new Hillsboro Osram LED modules. Also on hand was a 2016 Ford Explorer with LED low beam and fog light. Plus there was an Audi A7 that uses the adaptive matrix LED headlights. The demo also a BMW 5GT with laser headlights that cast a beam two football fields.
When it got dark, Osram Sylvania provided a driving tour to show how effective the new LED headlights are on the road. Adaptive Matrix headlights cast their beam in the direction of the road’s curve to ensure better visibility and more safety during night drives.
