DETROIT ? Eleven Michiganders are ranked among by Forbes magazine as the wealthiest people in the world, lead by brothers Hank and Doug Meijer ? co-chairmen and grandsons of the founder of the Grand Rapids-based grocery that bears the family name. The Meijers brothers earned the highest ranking of billionaires in the Great Lakes State ? No. 153 ? and a net worth of $8.5 billion.

Another West Michigan resident, Amway Co-Founder Richard DeVos, came in No. 196 on the Forbes list with a net worth of $6.9 billion. DeVos also owns the Orlando Magic National Basketball Association team.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is back on top of the list of the world?s richest people after a four-year hiatus. Gates, who led the list for 15 of the past 20 years, won the spot back from Mexican telecom mogul Carlos Slim Helu, who had topped the list for the past four years. Gates? net worth is estimated at $76 billion; Slim Helu follows at $72 billion.

Forbes says a record 1,645 billionaires made the list this year, with an average net worth of $4.7 billion. That?s up from 1,426 billionaires last year with a net worth of $4.2 billion. Total net worth of this year?s list was $6.4 trillion, up from $5.4 trillion last year. The magazine said that 1,080 of the billionaires were self-made, 207 inherited their wealth and 352 inherited a portion but are still growing it.

No. 408: Dan Gilbert, $3.7 billion. He is founder of Detroit-based home lender Quicken Loans and owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

No. 446: Mike and Marian Ilitch and family, $3.5 billion. They are the owners of Little Caesars Pizza, along with the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings. Marian Ilitch owns the MotorCity Casino.

No. 466: Ronda Stryker, $3.4 billion. She is director of Kalamazoo-based medical device-maker Stryker Corp., and granddaughter of Homer Stryker, who invented the mobile hospital bed.

No. 609: Alfred Taubman, $2.8 billion, owner of the Taubman Centers shopping malls.

No. 1036: John Brown, $1.75 billion. He is former CEO of Stryker Corp. and retired in 2009.

No. 1092: Jon Stryker, $1.6 billion. He is heir to the Stryker Corp. family fortune.

No. 1143: Manuel ?Matty? Moroun and family, $1.55 billion, owners of trucking and transportation companies, as well as Detroit?s Ambassador Bridge and the vacant Michigan Central Station in Detroit.

No. 1270: William Clay Ford Sr., $1.35 billion, last surviving grandchild of automobile pioneer Henry Ford and owner of the Detroit Lions.

No. 1270: Roger Penske, $1.35 billion, owner of auto retailer Penske Automotive Group.
