KALAMAZOO – Adults who are facing career changes, downsizing by their employers,
and other situations resulting in job layoffs are invited to a
comprehensive seminar Feb. 3 at Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
Free and open to the public, *Adults in Transition” is slated to
begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3,, in the Student Commons on the
Texas Township Campus and run to 5.
With a 30-minute Community Resource Fair and seminar check-in launching
the event, the sessions begin at 2:30 p.m.
Topics will include re-entering the job market, skills that are
transferrable among occupations and jobs, the value of networking and
volunteering in finding employment, the traits of readiness for
employment, how to budget one?s finances in the search for a job, and
the spectrum of community resources that are available for adults in
transition.
Among the presenters will be Wilma Wilder and Brian Parsons, both of
Goodwill Industries, Steve Beebe of WSI, Sandy Derby of Derby Financial
and Associates, and Judy Whitehurst of the Greater Kalamazoo United Way.
Wrapping up the event will be a networking forum from 4:30 to 5 p.m.
when participants will have the opportunity to interact with the
panelists.
Jointly sponsoring ?Adults in Transition? are KVCC?s Office of
Prior Learning Assessment, Office of Career and Employment Services, and
the counseling office. The first two are under the umbrella of the
college?s Student Success Center.
