DETROIT – Just announced by MichBio, Joseph Gulfo, author of the Innovation Breakdown: How the FDA and Wall Street Cripple Medical Advances, has been named the plenary speaker for the MichBio Expo Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Motor City Casino.

Gulfo is CEO of Breakthrough Medical Innovations, a team of biopharma and medtech consultants. An Inc.com contributor, he also teaches graduate cancer biology and business and entrepreneurship classes and maintains an educational cancer biology blog. Dr. Gulfo received his MD from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and his MBA from Seton Hall University.

The keynote speaker is FDA Commissioner Margaret A. Hamburg, MD where she has served since May 2009. As FDA Commissioner, she is advancing regulatory science, medical product innovation and globalization of the agency, while overseeing the implementation of groundbreaking laws to curb the use of tobacco and enhance food safety. She has undertaken major efforts to streamline and modernize FDA’s regulatory pathways.
