TROY – Automation Alley announced Tuesday that its Board of Directors has approved a resolution to support the New International Trade Crossing project, a second bridge connecting Windsor and Detroit.

The NITC project is a joint U.S.-Canadian border crossing solution that would directly connect I-75 to Highway 401 in Canada, improving travel time across the Detroit-Windsor border. Currently awaiting legislative authorization, the NITC would create 10,000 construction jobs and more than 30,000 indirect jobs during project construction. Also, it would help retain 25,000 jobs in Michigan that would otherwise be lost without additional crossing capacity, and it is expected to draw approximately 3,500 jobs into Southeast Michigan from outside the state.

?The NITC project joins our commitment to economic growth in Southeast Michigan with our efforts to strengthen international trade, and it creates jobs in the process,? said Ken Rogers, Automation Alley executive director. ?This development is a potential game-changer for the State of Michigan, and Automation Alley is proud to support it.?

The project comes at no additional cost to Michigan tax-payers, as Canada has pledged $550 million to fund its infrastructure. The public-private partnership would benefit Michigan companies and exports without adding new debt for the state.
