MACKINAC ISLAND – After interviewing both candidates, the Business Leaders for Michigan’s Political Action Committee announced on Thursday its endorsement of Governor Rick Snyder for re-election in 2014.
Cynthia Pasky, chair of the group’s PAC, said during a news conference at the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Mackinac Island Policy conference that in 2009, the Business Leaders for Michigan developed a turnaround plan to bring the state into the top ten on various issues.
“It includes our support for candidates for office, and that’s the standard that we measure the governor, and he has certainly earned our strongest endorsement,” she said. “We called for getting the state’s fiscal house in order by passing sound budgets, on time, without one time spending gimmicks, and that’s done.”
Governor Rick Snyder called the endorsement “special.”
“It’s an honor to have your endorsement,” he said. “But if you look, I view this as a partnership. You’ve been a great role model for many things that we have achieved. This isn’t about simply what I’ve done, but about the work we’ve done together, and many other parties.”
Michael Jandernoa, the PAC’s co-chair, said the group interviewed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer as well.
“There were interviews with both candidates. We have a process that we started when we formed the organization and the PAC committee,” he said. “It’s not done through BLM, it’s done as a separate organization as our PAC. And we believe it’s important to sit down with the candidates, face-to-face to review our plan and their reaction and support of that plan.”
