GRAND RAPIDS ?The Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center will be hosting several workshops through the end of the year designed to assess the needs of small business owners and equip them with the tools they need to not only start, but also successfully run their businesses.

From Hiring to Termination: An Employment Law Primer is set for
November 6 from 6 pm ? 9 pm at GVSU, DeVos Center, Rm 303C, 401 West Fulton, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. Learn what you need to know to keep your organization up-to-date on the latest in the employment law arena in Michigan. Topics will include the pitfalls to avoid in the hiring process; discrimination statutes; employee handbooks; sexual harassment in the workplace; miscellaneous employee statutes; and evaluation, discipline and discharge. There will also be a question and answer segment at the end to help you with any issues you may be currently facing at your organization. Pre-registration is required 24 hours in advance and can be made by fax, phone or online. The cost is $45 and is payable at the door.
Quick Books Basics will be held on November 14 from 9 am ? 12 pm at Davenport University, 6191 Kraft Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512 (check in at the Welcome Center to receive directions to the room). This QuickBooks training class for beginners is designed to introduce
the students to QuickBooks, help them set up a QuickBooks company, and learn basic functions such as invoicing customers, receiving and depositing payments, paying bills, and reconciling bank accounts. Students will also learn to read financial reports generated by QuickBooks. Pre-registration is required 24 hours in advance and can be made by fax, phone or online. The cost is $75 and is payable at the door. Fee includes a 400 page QuickBooks Training Guide.
Small Business Information Session are scheduled for November 15 and December 20 from 3 pm ? 5 pm at Grand Rapids Urban League, 745 Eastern Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. Sessions are also scheduled for November 16 and December 14 from 9 am ? 11 am at Urban League of Greater Muskegon, 26 E. Broadway Avenue, Muskegon Heights, MI 49444. Explore business start-up issues and receive assistance during this orientation session focused on general start-up questions, the importance of good credit, and obtaining financing for your small business. Pre-registration by fax, phone or online is required. There is no cost for this workshop.
Web Development and E-Commerce for the Small Business is set for November 27 from 6 pm ? 9 pm and will be held at Grand Valley State University, DeVos Center Rm 303C, 401 West Fulton, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. Learn to build and market a successful website to promote your business or sell products online. This presentation will cover domain name registration, online marketing, design considerations, search engine tips and tricks, legal recommendations, maintenance and up-keep, and developing an e-commerce site. Marketing on a Shoestring Budget will be held on December 11 from 6 pm ? 9 pm at the GVSU, DeVos Center, Rm 303C, 401 West Fulton, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. Marketing is an important key in building your business. This class explores the marketing process, along with some low-cost options for creating awareness among your customer base.
