ROCHESTER – Thomas Klier, senior economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, will highlight a business conference May 16 hosted by Oakland University School of Business Administration.

The conference, Michigan in the 21st Century Globalized Economy: A Requiem or a Renaissance? is a half-day Back to Business conference developed by the faculty. It brings together prominent economists for debate and expert information on globalization, the Midwest region and the automotive economy. The conference is designed for Michigan policy makers, business people and academics.

Klier will discuss the impact of globalization on the U.S. auto industry and the Michigan economy at his keynote address at 8:30 am. At 10 a.m., a panel discussion on how to succeed in the global market will feature Ted Chu, director of global economics and industry analysis and lead economist at General Motors; Sean McAlinden, chief economist and vice president at the Center for Automotive Research; Charles Ballard, professor of economics at Michigan State University; and Klier. Van Jolissaint, SBA executive-in-residence and retired director and chief economist at Chrysler LLC, will serve as moderator.

The conference will conclude at noon following an 11:30 lunch. Admission is $25 for the general public and advance registration is required. OU students, faculty and alumni can attend at no charge but must still register.
