PLYMOUTH –

Imagine being able to download a 1 gigabyte movie in just 4 seconds. With the

new Comcast Gigabit Pro, a residential 2 gigabit-per-second (Gbps) service,

Comcast customers in Metropolitan Detroit, Washtenaw County and West Michigan

can do just that.

But this

incredibly fast Internet service comes at a high price. Gigabit Pro costs $299

a month, plus a $500 installation fee and $500 for activation. Why so much? It also

comes with a special fiber optic cable installed to the home and a specially

trained technician to install it.

A promotional

pricing of $159 for Gigabit Pro is currently offered in several major markets

including Michigan. There are eligibility requirements for the promotion

pricing, including proximity to our plant, among others.

For those

that want faster Internet and already have Comcast’s Blast! tier Internet plan,

Comcast has just increased the speed by 50 percent from 50 Mbps to 75 Mbps – at

no additional charge. This is the 16th time in 14 years that Comcast increased

speeds and reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to stay ahead of our

customers’ demands for faster Internet, said Comcast Marketing Vice President

Jason Gumbs.

“Consumers

are on the Internet more and more, steaming video and voice,” he said.

“Bandwidth consumption has gone up 40 percent year over year.”

That 1

gigabyte movie on the Blast! tier service, priced as low as $39.95 a month, can

now be downloaded in just 1 minute 48 seconds, instead of at the previous speed

when it took 2 minutes, 44 seconds to download.

What

residential customers would spend $159 a month for Gigabit Pro very high-speed

Internet service?

“It’s for

the most advanced digital households and consumers who want the fastest connections

on the marketplace,” said Gumbs. “Someone who has a home business. Someone who

wants the newest technology and is affluent.

“This is the

fastest Internet deployed to millions of homes using fiber in the country,” he

said. “It is professional grade equipment. It’s not for everyone. But we have

other speeds for consumers that want to stream and play games. We just thought

it was important to communicate the news that we are offering this Gigabit Pro

product for customers who want the choice.”
