LIVONIA – In an effort to support the growing need for certified project managers in the Southeast Michigan area, Davenport University’s Institute for Professional Excellence will be hosting a Project Management Professional exam prep session starting March 3.
“Davenport is committed to providing professional development services that help companies and individuals achieve results,” said Max Gibbard, Program Director of the Institute for Professional Excellence. “Our experience with the Project Management industry and practical business and technology curricula ensures successful and quality outcomes for PMP certification.”
According to the PMI Project Management Salary Survey (Sixth Edition), Certified Project Management Professionals (PMP) make an average of $10,000 more per year than their non-certified counterparts.
Many hiring managers now expect candidates for their open positions to be PMP certified, which has led to many project managers participating in facilitated sessions with experienced PMP professionals to better prepare for the national exam.
“With the current economic conditions, companies are looking for ways to execute projects more efficiently,” said Cindi Oaks, Director/PMO Central Application Services for Budco in Detroit. “The PMP certification is an important and useful way to achieve that goal.”
In addition to the exam portion of the certification, candidates must also complete online applications demonstrating the amount of time they?ve spent working on projects and must show that they have completed at least 35 professional development units (PDUs) prior to receiving the credential. The PMP prep course offered through Davenport University counts as 36 PDUs for these candidates, as well as for other PMP-credentialed professionals seeking to maintain their certification.
The class is based on the Project Management Institute’s body of knowledge 4th edition and is offered at Davenport University?s Livonia Campus beginning on March 3, 2011. The class will meet every Thursday from 6-10 p.m. for seven weeks, culminating in an exam review session on April 14. Members of PMI?s Great Lakes chapter receive 25% off the cost of the course.
