ANN ARBOR – David Cole, Chairman of the Center For Automotive Research, said a new clean-tech era will soon transform the auto industry with the advent of plug-in electric vehicles that do not use petroleum products as a source of power. Cole, a keynote speaker at the TechKnow Forum 2008 in Ann Arbor, also said the economic turmoil that is helping drive down auto sales will eliminate about 20 million units of excess world manufacturing capacity, making the survivors very strong competitors in the year to come.
