LANSING ? The Department of Environmental Quality is offering $10,000 in grants to help Michigan institutions develop sustainable, green laboratory practices and projects.

The funding is available through DEQ?s Michigan Green Labs Initiative, a collaborative grant effort to assist institutions and share best practices for minimizing the environmental impacts of their laboratory operations. The project is funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and is supported by partner universities in Michigan.

Funding is available to non-profit organizations, including universities, and local and tribal governments. Total grant funds requested must be no more than $10,000, and the proposal must clearly indicate how the money will be spent.

Grantees must fund at least 50 percent of the total project cost. Requests for funding will be accepted through Sept. 5.
