DETROIT ? With some 24 electric-vehicle charging stations installed at the MGM Grand parking garage, Delta Products Corporation boost the largest single installation of Smart electric vehicle charging technology in the state ? thanks to a three-year grant from the U.S. Energy Department.

?We are thrilled to work with the DOE, DTE Energy, Mercedes Benz and kVA on this research project,? said Delta Products President M.S. Huang. ?The achievement of smart EV charging technology aligns with Delta?s mission to provide innovative, clean, and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow.?

At a press conference Wednesday before a group of technical writers, Delta, and its partner, DTE Energy, demonstrated the communication capabilities and site management system within its software. What the technology boils down to is utilities will be able to reduce infrastructure costs and manage grid loads during peak hours.

It will also benefit consumers by taking advantage of off-peak electricity rates for electric vehicle charging at homes, Delta executives said.

?The cooperation with Delta has been outstanding in this DOE project,? said Vince Dow, DTE Energy vice president, Distributed Engineering. ?By the end of 2015, we hope to show how clusters of charging stations such as this one in this project can be reliable adjuncts to the electric grid.?
