WEST BLOOMFIELD ? Medical Doctors at the Eagle Advancement Institute have introduced a new treatment for addicts of opioid-based substances like heroin and prescription pain killers. The treatment process, now being marketed as Clarity Intensive Outpatient Opioid Treatment, combines innovation in medical and psychological techniques to keep patients drug free.

Eagle?s physicians are reporting successful outcomes at five times that of the industry average and announced last week they had been granted certification by SAMSHA, the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that leads public health efforts to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America’s communities.

?From the patient?s point-of-view, the key advantages to the IOOT process is that it eliminates much of pain and suffering associated with withdrawal and that it is insurance eligible,? said Dr. Ricardo Borrego, a board certified anesthesiologist and director for Eagle Advancement Institute. ?Treatments that alleviated withdrawal have been available before, but they have typically been considered high-risk and not been covered by insurance companies, making them an unrealistic option for most addicts.?

Natural detoxification is very painful for the addict and it takes the body several weeks to completely rid itself of opioid substances. Eagle?s initial intervention employs multiple formulations of a non-narcotic medication called naltrexone that blocks the brain receptors of the addict. The naltrexone prevents the symptoms of acute withdrawal, allowing the patient to continue with their lives after a 24-hour period. As long as the naltrexone is present in the body, it also nullifies the euphoric effects of any opioid substances that the addict may take after the treatment, which significantly helps to prevent relapse.

?We?ve experienced a steady increase in inquiries and patient referrals since IOOT?s introduction to the market,? said James Carpenter, managing partner for EAI. ?For example, being able to keep opioid addicts drug free for extended periods is extraordinarily attractive to leaders within judicial system, where drug courts exist to rehabilitate citizens without the cost of incarceration.?
