LANSING – Legislation providing early voting in Michigan, which languished in committee since testimony was taken earlier this year, may see some action this week in the House.

HB 4090 , which requires clerks to be open for voting a week before each election, is expected to be reported out of the House Ethics and Elections Committee on Tuesday and taken up by the full chamber later.

Katie Carey, spokesperson for House Speaker Andy Dillon (D-Redford Twp.), also said the House will likely vote on HB 5532 , which requires a 30-day notice be sent to tenants of rental properties going through foreclosure. That legislation is before the House Regulatory Reform Committee, which is also meeting on Tuesday.

Action on the measure would follow votes by the House in November to create a home foreclosure prevention program under the Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation. The program would provide educational resources to homeowners, as well as track foreclosures with a statewide database and allow the commissioner to require mediation between a lender and homeowner in some cases (HB 6614 and HB 6615 ).

The House Banking and Financial Services Committee is set to meet this week to take up Senate legislation dealing with secondary mortgage brokers.
