LANSING – The Michigan legislative redistricting map is almost on the desk of Governor Rick Snyder, but the head of the Eastside Republican Club is joining with Rep. Tim Bledsoe (D-Grosse Pointe) to protest the lines.

Under the new map, Grosse Pointe Shores and Grosse Pointe Woods would fall under the 1st House District, while Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe Farms and Grosse Pointe Park would be part of the 2nd House District.

Both districts would include parts of Detroit, as opposed to the current map, which puts all the Pointes together with a portion of Detroit and Harper Woods.

In a letter to members on their website, Eastside Republican Club Chairman Jenny Nolan writes, “This happened because we did not have a representative at the table, and while it practically guarantees a Democratic house rep for everyone in Grosse Pointe, which will be bad news, that is not my main concern. The five Grosse Pointes are one community with overarching concerns that cross our boundaries: our parks, our schools, our waterfront, our business districts. All are knitted together into the fabric that is one Grosse Pointe. To split us up is to silence our voice, and to negate our concerns.”

Nolan said she will send a letter with Bledsoe to the governor and asked that any member who knows Snyder, his staff, or contributed to his campaign, should also contact the governor’s office to protest the legislative redistricting.
