EAST LANSING – Great Lakes Health Information Exchange has signed a partnership agreement with Eaton Rapids Medical Center that will allow the hospital to safely and securely share patient electronic medical records with its physicians, labs, other allied health facilities, and other hospitals and health care systems through a health information exchange system in the GLHIE network.
GLHIE has been active for just over a year and already the majority of the health care providers in the Capital Area have joined this community collaborative. Currently, nine hospitals and 4,500 health care providers are part of the GLHIE network throughout Michigan.
GLHIE?s non-profit utility-based health information exchange system is modeled much like a phone company or an Internet provider. It will allow health care providers more complete and quicker access to patient records on which to base their diagnoses and treatment plans, improve the quality of care, and increase patient safety. GLHIE?s system is in compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding the privacy and security of health information.
