SOUTHFIELD – It’s National
Volunteer Week, a week to recognize all the ways volunteers make America a
better place – and to inspire and encourage people to seek out imaginative
ways to engage in their communities.
And if there’s anyplace that
owes a massive debt to its volunteers, it’s The Engineering Society of Detroit.
Quite simply, we couldn’t do it
without volunteers. From events like Future City and Engineering SMArT Michigan
to get young people interested in STEM careers, to important professional recognition
programs like the ESD Construction & Design Awards, volunteers are the
lifeblood of ESD. Judges, mentors, board and committee members – our volunteers
serve critical roles in all the things that make ESD a vital, successful
organization.
So if you’re an ESD volunteer,
we give you our sincere thanks. And if you’re an ESD member not currently
serving a volunteer role with your Society, come on in! There are many ways you
can give back to the engineering and scientific community, and foster its tomorrows
by mentoring youth and younger professionals. You can give a few hours or a few
days – we have flexible roles that fit your schedule. And remember, even a few
hours can change a life – and last a lifetime.
So once again, thank you, ESD
volunteers!
