SOUTHFIELD – The Ferris State

University College of Business and a Dearborn-based education and training firm

are bringing a series of executive Mini MBA sessions to The Engineering Society

of Detroit beginning June 8.

 

Ferris State is offering the

Mini MBA in conjunction with Dearborn-based American Center for Educational and

Professional Services.

 

The Mini MBA is a management

and executive development program that aligns participants around the common

language and analytical tools of business. The courses are presented in an

abbreviated format and are designed to provide participants with a clear

understanding of financial objectives and measurement metrics. These skills

will lay the groundwork for participants to make smarter decisions that will

favorably impact their organization’s productivity and profitability.

 

The course covers in five

intensive days many of the subject areas of a traditional master’s business

curriculum, including:

 

Strategic planning

Finance and accounting for

management decision-making

Marketing essentials

Leadership

Presentation skills

Human resources and

organizational change

Ethics

Lean management

Global markets

 

The first session of the

program begins Monday, June 8 and ends Friday, June 12. Classes run daily from

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The classes will be held at ESD headquarters, 20700 Civic

Center Drive, Suite 450.

 

The Ferris State faculty that

will teach the courses are:

 

Lisa Eshbach, associate

professor. Eshbach teaches leadership, strategic management and lean systems at

Ferris State. Prior to joining the university, she spent 13 years in a variety

of leadership roles in the auto industry. She is a member of the North American

Case Research Association and the Lean Enterprise Institute. Eshbach has a

bachelor’s degree in business administration from Michigan Technological

University, master’s degrees in international administration from Central

Michigan University and in industrial engineering from Wayne State University,

and a Ph.D. in business administration and industrial engineering from Wayne

State.

 

David Steenstra, professor.

Steenstra has taught at nine different universities, including two in Europe.

He is also an entrepreneur – his D. J. Steenstra Co. has conducted corporate

training and consulting programs for more than 500 clients located throughout

the world. Steenstra has a bachelor’s degree and MBA from Central Michigan

University and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University.

 

Spence Tower, associate

professor. Tower has been teaching at Ferris State since 2006. For more than 20

years, he has been teaching graduate and undergraduate organizational behavior,

strategic management and human resources at Michigan State University, Central

Michigan University, and Ferris. He has also worked and taught at the University

of California at Santa Barbara, Western Illinois University, Aquinas College,

and the University of Pittsburgh’s Semester at Sea Program. He has consulted

with organizations such as Health Canada, Independent Bank, Aetna, North

Carolina Department of Transportation, Tenneco, National Charter School

Institute, and the Girl Scouts of America. He has bachelor’s degrees in

business administration and psychology from Aquinas College, a master’s degree

from Western Illinois University’s College of Education, and a Ph.D. from

Michigan State University’s College of Business in organizational behavior with

an emphasis in human resource management.

 

The cost of the mini-MBA

program is $3,600, which includes course materials, lunches, and a certificate

of completion.
