SOUTHFIELD –
Staff of The Engineering Society of Detroit spent the week of June 8 visiting
Michigan Technological University in Houghton and Ferris State University in
Big Rapids.
The visits
advanced creation of an ESD student chapter at both schools. The chapters will
offer engineering students of all disciplines a chance to meet and network with
students, professors and professionals across the broad field of engineering
and science. Students will have the chance to learn leadership, communication
and organizational skills that will help them throughout their careers.
An 11-hour
road trip to Houghton June 9 brought ESD Executive Director Robert Magee,
Director of Membership Heather Lilley and Director of Communications and Public
Relations Matt Roush to Michigan Tech’s beautiful campus in the western Upper
Peninsula. The group spent June 10 in day-long meetings with Michigan Tech
leadership, including President Glenn Mroz and Wayne D. Pennington, Dean of the
College of Engineering and tours ofMichigan Tech’s many engineering
laboratories.
