FAREHAM, United Kingdom – On June 29, the European Union published EC Regulation No. 715/2007, which introduced the next two levels of emissions limit reductions, known as Euro 5 and Euro 6, for light duty vehicles – passenger cars, multipurpose passenger vehicles and light trucks.
This new Regulation also introduced a requirement for vehicle manufacturers to make information related to their on-board diagnostic systems readily available to independent vehicle repairers to allow for more competition in the market for vehicle repair and maintenance services.
Compliance with the Euro 5 requirements becomes mandatory from on Sept. 1, 2009, for new types of vehicle and from Jan. 1, 2011, for all new vehicles. The implementation dates for the Euro 6 requirements are Sept. 1, 2014, for new types of vehicle and from Sept. 1, 2015, for all new vehicles.
