LANSING – Retail sales in Michigan showed a slight improvement, officials with the Michigan Retailers Association said Wednesday.

James Hallan, president of the association, said even with the increase retail sales are still struggling in Michigan because of the severe winter weather.

The association said 42 percent of retailers reported increased sales during February while 46 percent reported decreased sales and 12 percent said they saw no change.

In terms of the upcoming months, 54 percent of those surveyed expected sales to increase from March to May, while 19 percent thought there would be a decrease and 27 percent thought there would be no change.
