LANSING – Former U.S. Rep. Joe Schwarz will lead the charge for Ann Arbor venture capitalist Rick Snyder’s bid to attract Democrats and independents into the Republican primary to back his bid for the GOP nomination.

Dubbed “Common Sense for Michigan,” Snyder’s campaign called the move “an unprecedented grassroots effort reaching voters who have not traditionally voted in Republican primaries and informing them about Rick’s message of revitalization and reinvention for Michigan.”

Schwarz, who has endorsed Snyder, said Snyder is the best candidate to lead the state in a tough economy.

“Not only does he have the business background and a record of creating jobs, but I know he has the work ethic and leadership qualities that are needed in Lansing,” Schwarz said in a statement. “I’m confident that Rick is going to be able to work with both Republicans and Democrats in Lansing and follow through on his agenda. With his strong integrity and economic focus, Rick is the ideal candidate to lead our state in a new direction.”
