FLINT – No aspiring entrepreneur should miss out on Kettering University’s free start-up class this fall, called ORBIT, which offers a nine-session program that teaches the skills required to start or grow a successful technology-focused business.
ORBIT is offered at no charge from Oct. 10 through Dec. 12 in Kettering University?s Campus Center Room A. The program is open to Michigan residents.
Neil Sheridan, director of Kettering?s Techworks program, said participants get the mentoring required for turning an innovative concept into an effective tech business that will create jobs in Michigan.
?We provide this course to unlock the business potential of Michigan?s innovation workers. Our next employers start here,? Sheridan said.
The benefits of ORBIT are not limited to just entrepreneurs, said Alexander Masters, a course instructor. ?The strategic thinking, networking opportunities and persuasive communication that participants develop during the course are beneficial to any professional interested in working at a growth company,? Masters said.
The course contains presentations from expert guest speakers every week who share real-life experiences. Perspectives from the point of view of an entrepreneur, venture capitalist, patent attorney and investor help students to understand the inner workings of each field and develop their business plan accordingly.
ORBIT is made possible with support from the Michigan Strategic Fund and the Michigan Economic Development Corp. Sessions are conducted every Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Oct. 10 through Dec. 12. There is no fee for the course, although the recommended books cost $40.
