GRAND RAPIDS – Are you interested in learning the basics of renewable energy systems and how they work in Michigan? The Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association will host three renewable energy seminars Feb. 19 at Grand Rapids Community College.

The three seminars will cover Solar Heating, Solar Electricity and Wind Electricity. At these seminars you can learn about how you can benefit from clean, abundant, renewable energy.

Price: $30 for one seminar, $40 for two, or $50 for all three. Members save $10.

9:00 – 9:30AM Energy Efficiency Primer

The wise person works to conserve as much electricity as possible before investing in renewable energy. Learn about energy efficiency improvements that you can make to your home and how to create energy saving habits. There is no additional charge for this session.

9:30 – 11:30AM Solar Water & Space Heating Systems Seminar

Learn how to use the sun’s energy for domestic uses (showers, sinks, washing machines) and for home heating. These systems are easy to install and can pay for themselves in energy savings in just a few years. This seminar provides an overview of a variety of water and space heating systems.

11:30 -12:30PM Lunch – Attendees are responsible for their own lunches.

12:30 – 2:00PM Solar Photovoltaic Electricity Seminar

Students will gain a basic understanding of the components that make up a Photovoltaic (PV) electric system and how PV works. Students in this seminar should attend the Balance of Systems session.

2:15 – 3:00PM Balance of Systems Session

A part of the PV and wind energy seminars, this session covers the components that are common to both. There is no additional charge for this session.

3:15 – 5:00PM Wind Electricity Seminar

This seminar is ideal for people who wish to learn more about wind energy technology and who are interested in installing a system. Students in this seminar should attend the Balance of Systems session.
