LANSING – The Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association contends it is well positioned to help Governor Jennifer Granholm and the State of Michigan to achieve its renewable energy goals as outlined in the governor’s state of the state address.

“Sustainable energy incentives are the key to growing the renewable energy industry in Michigan,” said Jennifer Alvarado, Executive Director of the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association.

The State of the State Address called on goals for 1,000 schools to reduce energy use and supplement electricity use with options like solar and wind electricity.

“By bringing renewable energy systems to our schools, we create an opportunity to educate an entire community and students about alternative energy options,” said Alvarado.

“Having a diverse energy portfolio in Michigan helps to reduce Michigan’s dependence on out of state energy. It is also important to focus on energy efficiency and conservation in order to optimize Michigan’s energy production,” said Howard Edelson, Board President of GLREA. “We must balance our energy needs with the economy and the environment,? added Edelson.

The organization will be conducting both educational campaigns and training to Michigan residents and businesses to help expand the state’s renewable energy industry.

GLREA is hosting the Michigan Wind Energy Conference on March 3rd and 4th at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan. For more information, please visit www.glrea.org.
