GRAND RAPIDS ? Craig Hall, principal at Lee Shore Equities, hopes the upgrades to his 38 West Fulton St. building ? home to San Chez Caf on the first floor ? will make way for what he?s calling the Grand Rapids Tech Hub.
So far, he?s moved The Factory, a co-working space with 1,700 square feet on the third floor, into 5,000 square feet on the top floor. Next he has plans to transform the remaining 13,000 square feet into executive offices and other amenities focused on growing technology startups in West Michigan.
?We?re facilitating entrepreneurship by helping break down the barriers to success for start-up and emerging entrepreneurial technology and Internet development companies that will provide regional talent attraction and retention, skill building and an overall ecosystem of support and community,? Hall said.
The Factory is a working space with private desks, common areas, conference rooms and white boards. Hall is a partner with The Factory?s founder Aaron Schaap, a technology entrepreneur.
?We?re looking at this move upstairs as The Factory 2.0, where West Michigan startups can come to be supported, advised and most importantly, to get work done,? Schaap said. ?While The Factory caters to technology startups, it?s still available for anyone who needs a little space away from their home or office to work.?
