LANSING – Governor Jennifer Granholm will be in Philadelphia next week for a National Governors Association meeting where President-elect Barack Obama will talk with the state leaders about the challenges they face in the current economic environment. Vice President-elect Joe Biden will also be at the meeting Tuesday.
Obama officials said the topic will be the “unique challenges facing states during the economic crisis.”
Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, who along with Vermont Governor Jim Douglas is hosting the NGA event, will hold a media briefing after the closed-door session with the new administration.
Granholm spokesperson Liz Boyd said, “Clearly there are critical issues facing the states and the governor looks forward to talking about mutual items of interst with the president-elect and the vice president-elect.”
She noted Obama’s call for a second economic stimulus package, which would include infrastructure projects, and said, “The governor has said clearly that she would want infrastructure included in a stimulus package.”
Granholm is planning to attend NGA activities Monday evening prior to the meeting the next day with Obama and Biden. The meeting was called at the NGA’s request.
