BLOOMFIELD HILLS ? Great Lakes Angels’ November 8 monthly event will feature 10-minute elevator pitches by two Michigan technology companies seeking investors ? Jade Biomedical and RealKidz.

The event will be held at a private venue in Detroit area. Specifics will be shared with those accredited investors that register early.

Presenting companies include:

JadeBioMed makes the Non-Invasive Acupuncture Device (?NIAD?), a needle-free system that puts the power of acupuncture into the hands of medical practitioners. The NIAD is undergoing clinical testing and will be ready for market in Q1 2008 after earning FDA clearance. As research shows that resolving chronic conditions requires multiple modalities, many practitioners seek new tools that help patients while generating incremental revenue. Acupuncture is a desired modality, but laws, time commitments, subjectivity, and resistance to needles present obstacles. The NIAD standardizes acupuncture?s efficacy through a proven, effective, and straightforward 50-year old protocol and makes it available to all practitioners in a system that takes hours to learn, minutes to administer, and is profitable under existing insurance billing codes.

The NIAD?s handheld main unit generates electric micro-current to measure skin resistance, evaluating the body?s acupuncture meridians. The wireless receiver and PC software then store, graph, and analyze diagnosis data, recommend treatment, and walk the user through a session which culminates in a needle-free, main unit electro-stimulation of the acupuncture points. A seasoned acupuncturist validated the NIAD?s efficacy on over 25 patients, and during Jade Biomed?s recent trip to an osteopathic conference, 7 of 25 random DO?s validated physician?s interest and agreed to explore using the NIAD in practice. Jade has spent over three years building a system with integrated structural, electronic, and software operability. With a focus on accuracy, usability, efficacy, and safety, a team of engineers, software developers, and machinists designed the NIAD to attract the attention of western physicians.

RealKidz addresses the issue of childhood obesity through a unique two-pronged approach of providing desperately needed clothing to plus-size children and an online social network for parents to support them in incorporating healthy lifestyle choices into their families? lives. The CDC and American Obesity Association report that 30% of children between the ages of 6 and 12 are overweight or obese. Estimates say that number will grow to 50% by 2010. Despite these strong numbers, the clothing offerings for plus-size children are practically non-existent in this $3.2 billion market. In fact, according to the NPD Group, 84% of these children are sizing up to teen and adult clothing.

Further, the prospective and relative stickiness of Gen Xers and Boomers is helping drive a wave of new investment into sites that offer like-minded and like-aged individuals discussion forums about diet, fitness and health care, photo-sharing, and news and commentary. The goal and mission of RealKidz is to provide children and their parents with the means to be both happy and healthy. RealKidz will be successful due to its unique business model which will allow for sustainability, high margins, and steady revenue through the sale of its much needed clothing line, while it develops the company into a leader in child and family health support through its online community.
