ROYAL OAK ? Information security consultant Intelligent Connections has renamed its company, Sequris Group – to reflect the fact it has opened offices in Grand Rapids, Phoenix and Atlanta, and is now serving clients throughout the Midwest, Southwest and Southeast in a variety of industries, including healthcare, financial services, technology, and research and development.

Sequris Group was taken from the Latin root of Security. The name has just been unveiled internally to employees and vendors, and now to readers of MITechNews.Com.

The reason for the change, according to Sequris CEO Eric Eder, in part, is the change in legislation, with such new laws as Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.

“From compliance and finance to legal, Human Resources and IT, we recognized the need to bridge together all the departments of an organization, to ensure the company is running at its most optimum level,” he said. “In return, we expanded our business offerings to encompass a more strategic and consultative approach to risk management.

“We’re good propeller spinners; we looked at what brought we could bring to bear on the market,” he said. “We realized out clients needed help with risk management. As a result, in the next two years we’ll add new offices in the Mid Atlantic states, Pacific Northwest, California Coast, Northeast, and South Central states.”

Sequris now has 22 people on staff and anticipates growing payroll to 50 people over the next two years. That will be accomplished through organic growth and key acquisitions, Eder said.

Eder said Sequris’ sweet spot is the optimization service so they can identify customers’ risk parameters and implement long term plans for periods lasting from three to five years.

“This is a refreshing perspective on what has been a reactive approach to information security,” he said.

One of the biggest changes has been the “C” level decision makers ? Chief Executive Officers, Chief Information Officers ? are becoming much more aware of information security. And as a result, Intelligent Connections evolved as well.

“Before there was a small team of people at Intelligent Connections involved in security,” he said. “Now we?re engaging organizations in planning and review and have 30 different people involved in HR, Finance, and other business units. When everyone in management is involved and they adapt to the new business model, it is so much more effective.”
