LANSING ? Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Director Mike Zimmer on Wednesday announced several changes in leadership at the department.

Effective immediately, Kevin Elsenheimer – previously LARA deputy director – will serve as the department’s chief deputy director. He will oversee the department’s Freedom of Information Act Office, Michigan Administrative Hearing System, Michigan Liquor Control Commission, Office of Regulatory Reinvention, and Office of Policy and Legislative Affairs. He will also continue to serve as director of the Workers’ Compensation Agency.

Shelly Edgerton will continue to serve as the LARA deputy director but has also been named the department’s chief data systems officer. As such, she will be the department’s executive level liaison with the Department of Technology, Management and Budget, Mr. Zimmer noted, and will oversee the Bureau of Construction Codes, Bureau of Corporations, Securities and Commercial Licensing, Bureau of Employment Relations, and Bureau of Health Care Services.

Al Pohl, currently LARA’s chief financial officer and director of finance and administrative services, will also be a department deputy director. His additional responsibilities will include oversight of the Bureau of Fire Services, Bureau of Services for Blind Persons, and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

And finally, Zimmer announced that Karen Towne, previously senior executive assistant deputy director, will now be senior executive assistant director. She will continue her responsibilities as the LARA emergency management coordinator, the statement noted.
