WASHINGTON DC – The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced its endorsement of Field Reichardt to represent Michigan?s 2nd District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Field Reichardt is a proven leader in the public and private sectors who knows how to bring jobs to Michigan communities,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “We are proud to endorse Field Reichardt because he understands that the best way to get Michigan workers back on the job is with policies that encourage American clean energy and innovation while reducing our dangerous dependence on oil and curbing harmful pollution.”
Beyond his support for the restoration and preservation of the Great Lakes, Reichardt opposes efforts to undermine the Clean Air Act, and supports policies that provide economic incentives to increase America?s investment in renewable energy and to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels. On May 5th, Field Reichardt issued a press release calling for a “Manhattan Project” commitment to clean energy. He stated at that time, “The massive oil spill in the gulf of Mexico, the tragedy in the West Virginia coal mine and the increase in the warming of the planet make any thinking person sit up and take notice.
“I am both disgusted and appalled at the dilly-dallying going on in the gulf. This is a tragedy of epic proportions, and it is not just the finger pointing taking place between the three companies involved,” Reichardt said, “it is a failure of the Department of Energy to effectively control the drilling in the gulf, especially in the new supposedly ?fail-safe? extremely deep wells.
“Unlike my opponents, who are still advocating off-shore drilling, I am an advocate of increased investment in alternative energy, and use of natural gas as a way to wean the USA from oil, a dangerous, high polluting, and increasingly expensive energy source,” Reichardt said.
Reichardt has experience working in the Republican party in Michigan as well as nationally, and is also a small business owner – he is currently the President of The Organic Olive Oil Company, and a managing member of KMR Great Foods, which he co-founded.
“Field Reichardt understands that our addiction to oil puts our economy, our security and our planet at risk. As a business owner that has focused on the bottom line, we know he will support efforts to make clean energy the profitable type of energy for Michigan and help the U.S. lead in the 21st century’s clean energy economy,” said Karpinski.
