ANN ARBOR – Meadowlark Energy and Neighborhood Roofing are partnering to install a local home?s new roof with a unique solar shingle developed by Dow Solar in Midland.
The owners of the home, located in Ann Arbor?s Old West Side neighborhood, were pioneers of solar in the late ?70?s, and badly needed a new roof. With the installation of this new product, their new roof will not only keep the elements at bay, but will also generate electricity. Connected to the grid, this home will feed power back during times of excess production.
?This is a great solution for our client, who had first generation solar panels on a previous home? notes Meadowlark Energy President Doug Selby.
Working with Dow, Meadowlark Energy is a certified installer of the Dow Powerhouse Solar Shingle, designed to combine the benefits of solar technology with the durability and performance of a roof tile.
?This is a nice product if you?re interested in making your house more efficient and are re-roofing anyway,? said Selby. ?Retrofitting for efficiency comes first, but if you have to re-roof anyway, this can move the solar up in the staging process for an efficient home.?
The Dow Powerhouse Solar Shingle is a dual-functioning system that is certified as both a roofing and solar product and built to withstand rain, hail and wind. This product is eligible for a 30 percent federal tax credit and will return money to the homeowner over the life of the product.
