LANSING – The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is hosting a series of Community Development Workshops covering Community Assistance and Community Development Block Grant training at eight locations around the state between May and October.

?This is a golden opportunity for economic developers and local officials to learn about all the tools available to facilitate strong communities,? said MEDC President and CEO Michael Finney. ?Putting Michigan?s economic and community development tools to work can help make communities more attractive to residents, visitors, employers and employees.?

The CDBG presentations will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the following communities: Gaylord (May 26), South Haven (July 21), Marquette (August 31) and Brighton (October 27). The cost to attend is $40.

The workshops will focus on Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) grant administration, including federal laws and regulations. Attendees will learn about environmental review, Uniform Relocation Act, labor standards, record keeping requirements and more. First-time grantees or those looking to apply for a grant in the next two years are highly encouraged to attend.

The CDBG workshops are hosted, respectively, by the City of Gaylord and the Otsego County Economic Alliance, the City of South Haven, the Marquette Downtown Development Authority, and the City of Brighton.
