KALAMAZOO – Metabolic Solutions Development Co., a therapeutics company, is the sixth investment for the Southwest Michigan First Life Sciences Fund.

The company was founded in Kalamazoo in 2006 by two retired Pfizer scientists, Rolf Kletzien, PhD, and Jerry Colca, PhD. Their scientific strategy is build on understanding insulin-sensitizing thiazolidinediones to create a new generation of more effective and safe drug therapies for the 150 million people worldwide afflicted with diabetes. Other products in development are currently being evaluated for their ability to impact other diseases caused by metabolic inflammation.

The Southwest Michigan First Life Science Fund is a $50 million limited partnership venture fund interested in early stage life sciences opportunities in southwest Michigan that have demonstrably viable technologies and are committed to establishing a presence in the Region.
