GRAND RAPIDS ? Phil Tepley, the Tech Team Coordinator for the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, was named Michigan?s State Star Performer at the America?s Small Business Development Centers? 27th Annual Conference in Denver.

This award is given to a single SBDC employee per state that is an exemplary performer who, because of their strong commitment to small business, has made a significant contribution to both the state and the SBDC program.

Tepley has been with the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center for more than seven years and is currently the Tech Team Coordinator. In this position, Tepley has successfully leveraged numerous relationships and partnerships around the state in order to effectively implement a marketing strategy that positions the Tech Team as an integral element within Michigan?s technology-based economic development efforts. He is constantly exploring ways to improve the tech program by bringing in new people, venues, and volunteers, striving to make sure that key players are involved.

Tepley?s contribution to SBTDC clients is also highly respected and recognized throughout the state and his dedication ensures that no client is unprepared. Because of his strong problem solving abilities, Tepley possesses an impeccable capacity to estimate a client?s current and future needs. He also helps clients make connections with investors, public speaking venues, and the media, while being sought out by bankers and politicians who desire connections with tech companies. Tepley?s colleagues describe him as a naturally giving and supportive individual who cares deeply about his clients, peers, and partners.

Not only has he made a large contribution to the MI-SBTDC, but Tepley is involved with organizations statewide. He is currently the President of the New Enterprise Forum and is also a member of EISEM at Automation Alley?s Board of Directors. He is actively engaged with the University of Michigan, ITZone, Ann Arbor Chamber of Commerce, Ann Arbor SPARK, and Tech Town, just to name a few. His deep engagement with entities across the state has assisted Tepley in making a tremendous contribution to Michigan?s technology initiatives.

Tepley received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Michigan.
