GRAND RAPIDS – This year was a great one for the SBTDC Tech Team. The Tech Team had a significant impact with the many new companies it served, the existing growth companies it supported, and the companies it assisted in finding the financing and resources for them to grow and prosper.

The Tech Team surveys its clients annually, and the results of the 2011 survey confirmed that 2011 was another extraordinary year for the Tech Team and its clients. While last year was one of some economic uncertainty, the Tech Team saw it as a year of opportunity and dedicated themselves to those small technology businesses in need of assistance. Although there were occasional challenges to overcome, the Tech Team worked with its clients to continue to raise capital, commercialize technology, and create jobs. Here are the results from 118 clients who responded to the survey:

? 245 technology jobs (full-time equivalent) created

? $69.3 million in capital raised

? $7.5 million in SBIR Phase I and II capital raised

? 59 commercialized products

? 64 patents submitted

? 33 patents issued

The assistance provided by the Technology Team in 2011 has no doubt helped in restoring Michigan’s economy. The Technology Team?s clients are primarily high-tech companies in early stages of development. The capital they raised in 2011 will help them develop and commercialize technology and advance their business development, establishing themselves as important businesses driving Michigan’s new economy. Many of these companies will see tremendous growth in the future, continuing to provide new positions for much of Michigan’s highly-skilled workforce.
