ANN ARBOR – Life sciences trade association MichBio has disclosed more details about its October MichBio Expo 2006, a three-day series of meetings, lectures, exhibits and student-focused career events that will be held in Grand Rapids at the DeVos Place convention center.
MichBio expects the Expo to attract 800 participants from across the state to hear experts, attend special networking events, and meet with business development executives from national pharma and medical device companies.
The schedule is as follows:
October 10th – MichBio Student Life Science Career Day
MichBio, in partnership with Grand Valley State University and the Van Andel Institute, will host the Student Life Science Career Day on Tuesday, October 10. This event is for Michigan high school students interested in pursuing a science career. The program will feature Jim Jordan, an internationally renowned motivational speaker, who will guide students through a series of exercises and fun demonstrations to help them seek out the career path suited best for them. Life science industry experts will discuss their career paths, sharing personal advice regarding education and work experience. Additionally, students will tour local research and educational facilities. Invitations will be given to a maximum of three students and one teacher per school. 100 schools are anticipated to attend. This event is free to students and their chaperones.
October 11th – Tours and Symposia
An afternoon of educational tours and symposia is a new highlight for the 2006 expo. Focused on the life science business community, October 11th will feature a diverse group of service providers? educational seminars. Simultaneously, departing from the DeVos Place, Grand Rapid?s several life science companies will lead guided tours of their facilities. The day will conclude with the Expo?s opening reception.
October 12th – Expo and Conference
The MichBio Expo and Conference at the DeVos Place is designed for professionals from across the life science spectrum and at every stage of business development. The program will include keynote speakers and panel discussions on medical devices, pharmaceutical research/development and new avenues of biotechnology. The exhibit floor will present a diverse group of more than 50 life science companies and service providers. Attendees can schedule exclusive business development meetings where emerging and established life science companies meet one-on-one in a private setting with business development and procurement executives from national pharmaceutical, medical device, and diagnostic companies. In addition a research contract competition is in the planning stages.
