ANN ARBOR ? Life sciences trade association MichBio will host the MichBio Expo on October 16 and 17 at the Lansing Center and feature James Greenwood, CEO of the Biotechnology Industry Organization, as its opening keynote speaker.

Based in Washington, D.C., BIO represents more than 1,100 biotechnology companies, academic institutions, state biotechnology centers and related organizations in all 50 U.S. states and 31 other nations. BIO members are involved in the research and development of health care, agricultural, industrial and environmental biotechnology products.

As a former congressman, Greenwood has been a strong advocate for the life sciences for many years and possesses a broad national and international perspective on the issues facing the industry, said MichBio Executive Director Stephen Rapundalo. With the importance of the life sciences industry to our Michigan economic outlook, Greenwoods comments should be of vital interest to our attendees, he said.

Day One of the Expo will feature tours of local life sciences companies, and a networking reception. Day Two will feature sessions on pharmaceutical, medical devices, and other industry topics, exclusive business development meetings between emerging technology companies and life science business leaders; and an exhibit hall with displays from a diverse group of life science companies and service providers. Concurrent with Day One activities will be a Career Day conducted in conjunction with Michigan State University to introduce top high school senior science students and their teachers to educational and career opportunities in the life sciences.
