ANN ARBOR – MichBio, Michigan?s life science trade association, announced it has scheduled a Student Life Science Career Day October 10 in Grand Rapids during the first day of the MichBio Expo 2006.

Grand Valley State University and the Van Andel Institute, in partnership with MichBio, will host the career day. This event is for high school students in the greater Grand Rapids? area that are interested in pursuing a science career.

The program will feature Jim Jordan, an internationally renowned motivational speaker, who will guide students through a series of exercises and fun demonstrations to help them seek out the career path suited best for them. A panel of the state?s top life science industry experts will discuss their career paths, sharing personal advice regarding education and work experience. Additionally, students will tour the Cook DeVos Center for Health Sciences research laboratory facilities.

This is MichBio?s second student life science career day event. Last year, Wayne State University and university president Reid hosted the career day with over 180 students in attendance. The purpose of this event is to introduce Michigan?s top high school students to the excellent life science university programs and career opportunities available here in the state. The goal is to retain Michigan?s best students by encouraging them to attend state universities and work for state businesses.
