ANN ARBOR – The Michigan Bio-Industry Strategic Roadmap 2015 is a statewide effort led by MichBio to develop a five-year strategic plan for growing our biosciences industry. The initiative is being executed in partnership with the Business Leaders for Michigan and the University Research Corridor.

Outreach to bio-industry stakeholders is in full swing with numerous data-gathering sessions completed already, and more planned. Anyone involved with the bio-industry can participate in two ways:

Complete a 10-min online survey

Participate in a focus group

In addition, we are conducting 1:1 interviews with select bio-industry thought leaders.

Data gathered will validate key strategic themes and areas, identify new unmet needs and growth opportunities, and help develop policy proposals for action. We are seeking input based on sector (ag-bio, devices, pharma, R&D/testing, and bioscience logistics), market (CROs, clinical trials, and manufacturing suppliers), and functional areas (innovation, industry growth, capital access, and education/talent, and business climate).

Michigan?s bio-industry is at a critical point given the rapidly changing dynamics in the healthcare delivery marketplace, regulatory landscape, and global economy. For the state?s bioscience research, development, and manufacturing enterprise to succeed in the future will require a shared and executable vision.

Thus, Michigan?s bio-industry requires an operational ?game plan? to enable its growth over the next 3-5 years. In particular, clarity is needed around key strategies with defined goals, actions, accountable stakeholders, and metrics.
