LANSING – Michigan will be one of three states to pilot a new program by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce encouraging businesses to hire veterans.

The All States program, run through the Chamber’s Hiring Our Heroes program, allows states to highlight their efforts to encourage veteran employment.

“This is an exciting program that recognizes the work we are doing to attract and retain veteran talent here in Michigan,” Governor Rick Snyder said on announcing the program. “The All Vet States initiative gives us a chance to highlight the incredible opportunities, services and support Michigan offers to attract and hire transitioning service members and military spouses.”

“Michigan has worked aggressively to be a top destination for our nation’s veterans and military spouses,” said Eric Eversole, executive director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes program. “We are thrilled to work together through our All Vet States initiative to help Michigan highlight the many economic and educational opportunities for the men and women who have served our country.”

The Michigan page notes that, as of November 11, the state had commitments to hire 50,000 veterans. To get to the Michigan page from the main site, www.allvetstates.com, though, required a click on the Upper Peninsula or Wisconsin.

The page provides links to a variety of state and other resources intended to help veterans and their spouses find work. It also houses a map to all of the military bases and Veterans Affairs Agency offices in the state.

Iowa and Tennessee had also been selected to participate in the program.
