LANSING ?? Michigan could designate five new renaissance zones for companies in the business of making fuel from cellulosic materials under legislation reported unanimously by the House Agriculture Committee on Wednesday.
Republican members on the panel originally opposed HB 5746 , because it would designate six of the current energy renaissance zones for cellulosic firms.
They said that would leave out other alternative fuel firms in a time when technology is constantly changing in the industry.
But the bill was amended to add five new zones to the current crop and make those cellulosic designated, which makes it similar to Senate-passed legislation, SB 1122 .
The panel also unanimously approved legislation (HB 5752 ), which requires the Michigan Strategic to publish a list of sites available for “collocation” renewable fuel plants with existing facilities.
