LANSING – Following President Barack Obama’s speech on climate change, leading environmentalists in Michigan hailed his proposals Wednesday, especially the new restrictions on carbon emissions from power plants.
“The president called for first ever limits on carbon pollution from new and existing power plants,” according to Wibke Heymach, Michigan state field organizer for Moms Clean Air Force. “Pollution is dirty and deadly, and doesn’t belong in our air.”
Art Toy, president of Four Elements Energy, said the proposed changes by Obama will help move the nation away from depending on fossil fuels. Toy also said clean energy is becoming more affordable, which will help move the country in the direction of clean energy.
Obama has directed his administration to develop federal regulations on greenhouse gases that power plants emit. He also called for increasing renewable energy production on federal land and other measures.
