LANSING – A proposed list of more than 16,000 requested projects that would total in excess of $59 billion in federal stimulus monies was opened to the public Wednesday when the administration of Gov. Jennifer Granholm put the list up on a new website.

There is no possible way the state will get all the requested funds for the projects, states a comment on the Recovery website, and many of them on the list do not meet federal requirements of being “shovel-ready.”

But the more than 1,200-page list does show there are far more needs in Michigan than funds, the website says.

In posting the list, the website has super-imprinted over every page that the list is of submitted requests, “not approved.”

The page was released as officials are beginning to stake out philosophic territory on how spending the funds will be made. One House official said members there are anxious to move as quickly as possible to determine which projects will get funding.

Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop (R-Rochester), however, has said he sees that all stimulus funding has to be approved through the regular appropriations process.
