Using FDA registration records, BioEnterprise reported 966 companies in Illinois have registered with the FDA for medical devices. Registered medical device companies include both manufacturers and distributors. Ohio ranks second at 625 companies, followed by Minnesota at 577, Michigan at 448, Indiana at 359, Wisconsin at 350, Missouri at 310, Kansas at 145, Kentucky at 103 and Iowa at 83.
“The existing manufacturing base provides a strong foundation for Ohio’s growing bioscience economy,” said Baiju Shah, CEO of BioEnterprise. “Ohio manufacturers have recognized the economic opportunities in the biosciences and are leveraging their specialized skills in materials and electronics to participate in this growing sector.
