LANSING ? The Michigan Strategic Fund is investing more than a half-million dollars in Short’s Brewing Company in Bellaire, and in metal-stamper Proos of Grand Rapids that is expected to leverage about $6.3 million in private investment.

Proos is a family-owned and operated ISO certified manufacturer that creates sophisticated metal stamping products, welded assemblies, sheet metal fabrications and custom electrical products. Proos is increasing its capacity by adding more advanced technologies and more efficient machinery to remain competitive. The company will expand its stamping and fabrication operations, investing up to $5.7 million and creating 50 jobs. As a result, the company has been awarded a $200,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. The City has offered support through a property tax abatement.

Short?s, the popular restaurant and brewpub, will expand courtesy of a $309,000 Community Development Block Grant given to Bellaire for the acquisition and redevelopment of two multi-story buildings located adjacent to Short?s Brewing Company. The completed project will consist of additional restaurant and brewpub capacity and new office space for current and future Short?s administrative staff. Bellaire will contribute approximately $5,000 to be used to hire a consultant to administer the project.
