LANSING – Adults who never graduated from high school might have the opportunity under a partnership between Michigan Virtual University, ed2go and Smart Horizons Career Online Education announced Tuesday. The program would allow adults to earn a high school diploma as well as a career certificate.

“Too many Michigan adults do not have a high school diploma,” Jamey Fitzpatrick, president and CEO of MVU, said in a statement announcing the partnership. “It is imperative that we explore innovative solutions to help these adults gain access to the fundamental career skills needed in today’s global job market.”

The program will particularly be targeted to those in prison or jail who failed to graduate high school, he said.

The agreement provides that ed2go and Smart Horizons will operate the school and MVU will secure funding, through corporate and foundation donations as well as through state appropriations and federal grants.
