MIDLAND – The MidMichigan Innovation Center will host its third annual IP Goola Affair where it provides an update on latest issues in Intellectual Property for entrepreneurs on Halloween morning.
This year, just in time for the event, the President signed into law the most sweeping changes in patent law in the US in history. In simple terms, we?ve simplified our patent system and made it more consistent with Europe?s approach which grants the patent to the first to file rather than to the first to invent. This is easier to administer since there is less to fight over. If you got your paperwork in first, you win.
Some media have lauded this as a great benefit for entrepreneurs but a less vocal but strong counter-point is now being raised suggesting that small business will be the big losers under the new system.
As with any new system these changes are certain to create a vast array of transitional challenges. An ounce of prevention and preparation may have a significant long term impact on companies with patents under development.
To get the answers vital to your success, don?t miss our extended ?A Trick or A Treat? overview of the new patent law.
Join some of the state?s leading SMEs (subject matter experts) on IP (intellectual property) as we explore how these profound changes will impact your business plans.
The event is open to the public and is especially suited for participation from those involved and interested in entrepreneurial business development, as well as those interested in supporting job growth and development in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
Cost to Attend: MMIC Members ($20); Non-Members ($89) lunch included. To Register, please visit www.mmic.us, or contact the MMIC office at 989-839-2333.
