BOSTON – A Michigan

State University College of Engineering professor who developed break through

solar cell technology and a University of Michigan Ph.D. candidate in computer

science who developed a scanning system to spot security flaws online both earned places on the 2015 Innovators Under 35 list

published by the MIT Technology Review.

Lunt, 33, an

assistant professor of chemical engineering and materials science at MSU, was

named to the annual list that recognizes exceptionally talented young

technologists whose work currently illustrates the most important emerging

technologies. Lunt’s new

materials could increase solar panel’s power output by converting more of the

sun’s energy to electricity.

Zakir

Durumeric, 26, developed the ZMap scanning system that determines not only

which machines are online at any given moment, but also whether they have

security flaws that should be fixed before miscreants exploit them. It finds

everything from obvious software bugs to subtle problems like the ones that can

be caused if an IT administrator fails to properly implement an arcane aspect

of a cryptography standard. ZMap can scan all four billion devices on the

Internet in about five minutes.
